I attended Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to complete general surgery residency training at Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital. I graduated in 2014 then went on to complete surgical critical care fellowship at MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Following this training I stayed on as staff at MetroHealth where I was Assistant Professor of Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. At MetroHealth I was the opioid champion for the department of Surgery where my role was to distribute education and help in creating and implementing strategies for safe opioid prescribing of surgical patients. In this role I obtained grant funding for patient education regarding expectations of pain after trauma. In 2018 I was recruited back to my home program at Cleveland Clinic South Pointe to take over the role of program director where I was able to obtain initial accreditation through ACGME in a relatively short period time. I currently hold the role of Assistant Professor of Surgery through Lerner College of Medicine through Case Western Reserve University. I look forward to the future as I have a strong passion in surgical education as well as opioids and addiction.

Medical training at Washington University in St Louis was followed by dermatology residency at New York University and fellowship at Columbia Univesrity. Annika Storey, D.O. is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Acute Care Surgery at Jefferson University Sidney Kimmel Medical College Department of Surgery in Philadelphia, PA. She is originally from Okemos, MI, and received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University Lyman Briggs School in 2005 with a BS in Physiology. She then received her graduate degree as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA. Dr. Storey completed her internship at the University of Pittsburgh-Mercy Hospital in 2010, her general surgery residency from the Grandview Medical Center in Dayton, OH in 2014, and a two year fellowship in Acute Care Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN in 2016. Jennifer Susoreny-Velgos, DO- General Surgeon at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center Dr. Jennifer Susoreny-Velgos was born in Crown Point, Indiana and is a graduate of Indiana University. She obtained her medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee. She completed a residency in general surgery at Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Dr. Susoreny-Velgos is board certified in general surgery and performs general surgical procedures including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic appendectomy, colon resection, foregut surgery, inguinal and ventral hernias (both laparoscopic and open), breast surgery, skin and soft tissue surgery, thyroid surgery, and basic thoracic surgery. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons Arkansas Chapter, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the Sigma Sigma Phi National Honorary Osteopathic Fraternity. Dr. Carlo Contreras completed his Surgical Oncology training at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. There, his focus was on the most effective surgical approaches to hepatobiliary and pancreatic malignancies. As a member of the UAB Surgical Oncology faculty he cares for patients with a wide variety of malignancies including skin, soft tissue, and gastrointestinal. He promotes a patient-centered approach, and feels that effective communication is paramount in the multidisciplinary care of his patients. Dr. Contreras is pleased to offer a broad range of oncologic therapies, including minimally invasive and robotic approaches. He is the Director of the UAB Surgical Oncology Tissue Bank, and participates in clinical trials.
