2020 SOSA Spring National Convention
Hosted at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine,  the 2020 SOSA Spring Conference is 2 full days of lectures, hands on workshops and specialized sessions for your desired surgical track.

In the program section of the registration form below, please select by clicking "add" which surgical track you wish to be placed. Each track has a limited amount of space so register early and "add" your surgical track in order to to secure a spot.

Come learn how to address the most common post-op complications using Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. This session will be taught by Des Moines University OMM faculty and fellows to allow plenty of hands on learning in a small group setting. The session is expected to run from 6 – 8 pm on Friday Feb. 28th and will be held at the Des Moines University campus. Light snacks and refreshments will be available during this session. Session registration is limited, so register early to secure your spot.

Follow a surgical case and learn a few skills that you would utilize in cardiothoracic surgery. Each track will have a unique cadaver demonstration lead by a surgeon in that field. Skills and type of demonstration for cardiothoracic surgery include: Commonly used suturing for cardiothoracic surgery, Femoral line placement, Vimedix Augmented Reality Cardiac Ultrasound, and a valve replacement demonstration.

Follow a surgical case and learn a few skills that you would utilize in gastrointestinal surgery. Each track will have a unique cadaver demonstration lead by a surgeon in that field. Skills and type of demonstration for gastrointestinal surgery include: Commonly used suturing for gastrointestinal surgery, NG tube placement, Vimedix Augment Reality GI Ultrasound and Organ Harvest demonstration.

Skills and type of demonstration for General Surgery include: Commonly used suturing for general surgery, Chest tube placement (animal tissues),  Reading chest x-rays with a surgical resident, and a wedge biopsy of the lung demonstration.

Skills and type of demonstration for neurosurgery include: Commonly used suturing for neurosurgery, Lumbar puncture, Reading MRI/CT with a surgical resident and a Craniotomy demonstration.

Skills and demonstrations in the Orthopedic Surgery Track include: Commonly used suturing for orthopedic surgery, Joint injections and a demonstration in joint replacement.

Skills and type of demonstration for the Trauma Surgery Track include: Commonly used suturing for trauma surgery, EZ Interosseous Line placement, Intubation (animal tissue) and amputation demonstration.
