ACOS Announces New Incoming President, Valerie L. Sheridan, D.O., FACOS

WASHINGTON (October 10, 2014): Valerie L. Sheridan, D.O., FACOS, acute care surgicalist at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Maryland and former chief of surgery at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona, was elected as president of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons in late September during the College’s Annual Clinical Assembly. 

Dr. Sheridan has been a dedicated member of the College since she joined as a resident in 1993. Since that time, she has gone on to earn the prestigious Residency Achievement Award (Now known as the Resident Achievement Award) and participated on numerous committees including the Scientific Exhibits and Posters Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Nominating Committee, Adhoc Member Services Committee,  General Surgery In-depth Review Committee, Investment Advisory Committee, Quality Initiatives Committee, and the Continuing Education Committee. Her dedication was further exemplified as she stepped up to the call to serve as a Governor to the General Surgery Discipline in 2005. She continued her service to the Board of Governors in 2008 and is presently an Executive Officer.

Dr. Sheridan received her medical degree and completed her residency training at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She was a chief of surgery at Mountain Vista Medical Center from 2008 – 2010 where she also served as a vice-chief of surgery from 2010 – 2014 and the general surgery residency program director 2012 – 2014.
