FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons Converts In-Person Fall Annual Clinical Assembly to a Virtual Event

Alexandria, Virginia, August 17, 2021 – ACOS Cancels 2021 In-Person ACA Conference, Converts to Virtual Format

From the office of ACOS President Eugene W. Laveroni, Jr., D.O., FACOS, DFACOS

After careful consideration of the health and safety conditions for holding a large-scale event in Orlando, Florida, the ACOS Board of Governors made the difficult, but responsible, decision to cancel the in-person 2021 Annual Clinical Assembly of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACA) and convert it to a virtual format, to be launched in early November.

At ACOS, we were very excited about the conference and are disappointed that we had to make this decision. We also know how much our members were looking forward to being together. However, the health and well-being of all attendees, faculty, vendors, and our staff is our top priority.  The Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus has caused a major surge of infections and has overwhelmed many hospitals in the United States.  Florida has seen a major resurgence of coronavirus cases in recent days, causing it to set new daily infection records that exceed any other time since the start of the pandemic.  This makes large gatherings such as the ACA [email protected] unreasonably dangerous.  As a non-profit organization of physicians devoted to improving health, it would be reckless and irresponsible for the ACOS to hold its meeting and risk spreading this deadly virus to the vulnerable communities and patients that its members serve.

The theme for the 2021 ACA is Resilience: Strategically Mastering the Moment. It is necessary for the College to demonstrate again the continued strength and resilience of our community by converting our meeting to a more responsible and safe option for everyone.  Our conference planning staff is now pivoting to convert the 2021 ACA into a virtual event and ensure the delivery of high-quality, impactful continuing education for all stakeholders.

The ACOS will automatically transfer in-person registrations to the virtual meeting. If a member has registered and opts not to attend the virtual meeting in November, email [email protected] by Aug. 31, 2021, to request a full refund.  Individuals are responsible for canceling all hotel reservations directly with the JW Marriott Grande Lakes Hotel at (800) 433-5402 as well as, all other air and travel reservations.  The ACOS will not cancel hotel reservations and does not reimburse members for lost hotel, travel, or other deposits.

ACOS will keep members informed as we have more information to share. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] with any questions.  We truly regret the inconvenience this may cause.  Thank you for your understanding.
