College Structure

The Board of Governors may authorize and dissolve surgical disciplines for the College for the study and advancement of any specialties of osteopathic surgery and special sections.

A surgical specialty or section with adequate numerical representation as determined by the Board shall submit to the Board of Governors for approval the bylaws for the specialty discipline or section.  The bylaws shall be consistent with the bylaws, policies, and procedures of the College.  The administration of each surgical discipline or section shall in no way conflict with the overall objectives, ideals, and functions of the College.

Membership in a surgical discipline shall be open to any member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons practicing in that specialty. Membership in a special section only may be open to members of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.  Membership privileges for a surgical discipline or section shall be the same as those granted members in the College.

Sections exist for Resident and Student Members. Members in the military can participate in the Military Members Forum.
